It’s a known fact that happy people achieve more. But where does happiness come from? It is not by luck or chance. It comes from within; from the way we handle life’s ups and downs, and how kind we are to our bodies and minds, as well as to others.
Here at Pure Glow, we are always looking for new ways to glow; that is to feel happy, healthy and in control of our lives and the things we want to accomplish.
And with that in mind, we’ve put together 7 essential habits of glowing people, to give you some of the most effective rules and rituals to help find your inner + outer glow!
1. BECOME A MORNING PERSON
As they say, the early bird catches the worm, and for good reason too. Many well known CEOs, celebrities and athletes swear by waking up at the crack of dawn. It helps us to get more done. It allows time before work and other commitments, to get outside, exercise and set ourselves up in the right mindframe to have a super productive day, every day!

But how do you go about it? Setting your body into a routine is the hard part, but once you have nailed this, it will become second nature. It will be hard for the first few days, but there are apps designed to make the process easier, such as Sleep Cycle, that senses your sleep cycles and wakes you during your lightest sleep.
2. LIVE BY THE 80/20 RULE
We are all human, and that means we are motivated by our desires. Our desires are not always what is best for us, but sometimes we need to reach a compromise. Repressing our cravings for chocolate, a night out drinking cocktails with friends, or spending a day doing nothing at home could eventually cause burn out.
At the end of the day, we’re here to live our lives and have fun, and to truly glow from within we have to do what makes us happy.
The 80/20 rule —otherwise known as the Pareto Principle — is so often talked about because it makes sense in many different contexts.
When it comes to our health, we can apply the rule by nourishing our bodies most of the time, and then we can relax and enjoy the things we like, that aren’t necessarily the best for us in big quantities, some of the time (we love a cheeky chocolate square and glass of red!).
We can achieve this 80/20 balance in all facets of our lives by planning ahead and commiting to consistency.
3. PRACTICE MINDFULNESS AND GRATITUDE DAILY
Life gets busy, and it is easy to forget to live in the here and now, but training yourself to live in the moment and appreciate the good things around you will keep you grounded and fulfilled!
We encourage you to make this an essential part of your everyday life. To set three goals and three things you are thankful for, at the start of each day. Some people like to keep a dedicated gratitude journal, others might use the notes function in their phone, or even a simple notepad.
Do whatever works for you; remembering the things you are thankful for on a regular basis, is a simple and really effective way to improve your mood and mindset each day. It could be big things like your health and your loved ones, or even more simple things such as your morning strolls on the beach.
And while we’re on the topic of strolling along the beach, one of our favourite ways to cultivate mindfulness is to get outside, into nature and take some very deep breaths. It helps you to unwind, relieve tension, and bring you back into the here and now.

4. SET SMALL GOALS
Don’t put the pen back down just yet! Goal setting is another way to help you on your path to becoming the best version of you, by realising your ultimate goals, and challenging yourself to keep learning and growing.
Happy and glowing people can visualise what they want, and spend their daily lives working towards those hopes and dreams. Breaking these down into smaller, more achievable tasks, will propel you along the path to finding true happiness and fulfillment.

5. NEVER UNDERESTIMATE THE POWER OF SLEEP AND REST
They say that some of the most powerful people thrived off just a handful of hours of sleep each night, however the science says different!
The way you feel when you wake up depends mainly on how well you slept the night before. The Sleep Foundation experts suggest the average adult needs between 7-9 hours sleep.
And it’s not just your physical health that depends on adequate sleep, it’s beneficial for your mental health and your overall mood to wake up refreshed and rejuvenated. It also helps you to deal with negative emotions when you’re calm and thinking clearly.
So how do you know how much sleep you need? The amount varies a lot from person to person, and depends on many different factors. Below are some points that could help you.
- Keep a sleep diary, record how you felt before bed, and when you woke up, as well as times you woke up in the night
- Only hit the hay when you feel really tired and sleepy
- If you have a few days off from work, don’t set an alarm whatsoever. Just see what happens naturally
- Try to get out in the sunlight during the day, as this can help to synchronise your internal body clock
6. NOURISH YOUR BODY
Food is fuel for our bodies. For many reasons it’s become more than that; an emotional crutch, a cure for boredom, an addiction, a quick-fix when we’re heading home from work and are too tired to cook wholesome food.
It can become a vicious circle; if we were looking after ourselves we wouldn’t reach for the junk (or maybe not as often!). Vitality starts from the inside, and that’s why we need to think about what we put into our bodies.
We find that the trick to managing your healthy weight and having effortless glowing skin is to enjoy nutrient dense, water-rich food. This includes cold-pressed juices, as well as solid foods rich in water and nutrients such as lettuce, fresh spinach leaves, celery, cucumber and cauliflower.
One of the biggest benefits to these types of foods is that they are filling, and make it easy for you to manage your portion sizes. They are especially beautifying because they carry rich, vitamin infused water to every corner of your body, nourishing and hydrating you from the inside out.
This doesn’t mean we need to deny ourselves treats and fast food now and then, but it’s essential to fuel our bodies with fruits, vegetables, good fats and the vitamins and minerals that will keep us glowing day in and day out.
7. FACE YOUR FEARS (AT LEAST TAKE THE FIRST STEP!)
The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.’ Franklin D. Roosevelt. This is perhaps one of the world’s best known quotes, but is there truth in it?
The answer is a resounding YES! Most of the fear we have turns out not to be worth our anxiety! Often it’s the fear of the unknown or a fear of failure that stops us in our tracks.
Many of the important lessons we learn in our lives will happen directly as a result of things we feared, faced and overcame. This could be anything from giving a presentation at work, beginning a new hobby, or starting on a new path to health and wellness.
We first need to acknowledge our fears and reason with them i.e. what’s the worst that could happen? Then we can move past them, and will become more confident and happy as a result.
There’s no better way to keep glowing and thriving than the feeling of achieving something we never thought we could! (Perhaps your first every cleanse?)
We all have our own definition of happiness, success and a set of unique things that make us truly happy in our lives. The 7 rules to live by laid out here have an overarching principle... be kind to yourself, and look inward always, to find the answers.
