Meet our Autumn Muse - Amelia Harvey

Autumn brings with it cooler weather, more cosy nights cuddled up at home, delicious grounding meals, and often a desire for many of us to reflect inward. With that in mind, we couldn't think of a more perfect muse for this season than Amelia Harvey - Meditation Teacher, Life & Business Coach.

We asked Amelia 10 questions to get to know her a little better.

1. In a few sentences, what exactly is it that you do?
I’m a life coach and meditation teacher and I work with women to empower them to connect with their intuition, uncover their true purpose, and embrace their inner goddess. I do 1:1 work, group mentoring and events. I also do business coaching with new coaches and online biz owners.
2. What is the most rewarding AND the most challenging part of your job?
The most rewarding part is seeing the changes that my clients experience as a result of our work together. Seeing them go from stressed out, stuck, or lost to being calm, motivated, and full of passion and purpose is really special. The most challenging part for me is saying yes to big long term projects and carving out the time to be creative - but I try to make it a priority because I’m so inspired when I do!
3. How would you describe meditation and what are some of it's benefits?
Meditation is a practice for training your mind and aligning with the best version of yourself. It’s been scientifically proven to improve concentration, sleep, and happiness and it’s an amazing practice for improving mental health and function. For me personally, it’s a bit of me-time that I look forward to every day where I can recharge and check in with myself.
4. Any quick at home tips that we can all start doing immediately to help us manage stress?
Deep breathing activates what's known as our 'rest and digest' response which is the opposite from the 'fight and flight' stress mode that we all spend way to much time in! Attach a few deep breaths to the things you do every day without thinking - mealtimes, brushing your teeth, washing dishes - and you’ll be allowing your body and mind to relax and heal.
5. What does 'health' mean to you?
It means being full of energy, feeling calm and grounded, and being able to show up as my best in every area of my life. It’s something I prioritise hugely because health is the foundation that we behold everything else from!
6. If you could be doing anything else other than what you are doing right now what would it be and why?
I love art and creativity so perhaps studying a fine arts degree! I’d love to do my psych masters at some point too.
7. Who inspires you?
I’m super inspired by women running their own business and doing things their own way - Zoe Foster Blake, Jess Sepel, and Samantha Wills are some of my favourite biz ladies.
8. How important is food and nutrition to you - any favourite 'go to' meals?
What I eat is super important to me! When I was in my honours year of my psych degree I quit sugar and it really drove home how big an impact our nutrition has on how we feel. All of a sudden I was less moody and had so much more energy! Some of my go-tos for dinner are grilled salmon and greens and I make a mean dahl!
9. If you could only eat 3 things for the rest of your life what would they be?
Avocado, chocolate, and figs!
10. Lastly, if you were going to be stranded on a dessert island and could only take 2 items from your house, what would they be (apart from your husband, of course)?
My bed! And my phone to call for help!
